Alyssa Curnow | New York, NY
Alyssa Curnow is currently a Penn State University senior, finishing her final semester of Journalism and Public Relations studies in New York City. Eager for a new challenge, she wanted a change from the traditional college life and decided to move to the city to intern with fashion designer Nora Gardner to gain additional real-world experience before graduating in May, 2015.
For the past four years, although her studies in school have been centered on journalism and writing, her internships and extra-curricular activities have been focused on public relations as she sought to receive as diverse of an education as possible. However, the more experience she gained, the more she realized how much she missed her first love — writing.
Alyssa was once incredibly shy, too afraid to be the people-loving extrovert she is today. Fashion and writing became outlets in which she could express herself without having to feel too vulnerable. To this day, the two remain her greatest passions, and writing for Better Than A Cupcake allows her to fuse the two into one role. Most interested in city street styles and brands with beneficial causes behind them, she always is on the lookout for new ideas and trends.
Raised in a small town with parochial ideals, Alyssa now values diversity and immerses herself in it as often as she can. She genuinely enjoys meeting and interacting with all types of people and personalities for she believes that learning about the beliefs and lifestyles of others is the best method to learn about herself.
